Terrific Traveling Tips
Hi Critters, Oswald here!
Happy Summer! I hope this month is treating you well and is filled with scrumptious BBQs, family time, and a lot of sunshine and swimming. We are starting vacation season and even us beavers love to get out of town once in a while. It is important to take the time to break away from daily routines and have some FUN. When we break away from our daily routine, it is important that we keep one routine intact…our DENTAL routine! Why, you ask? Because our teeth thrive on a routine to stay happy and healthy!
I included 5 traveling tips below to keep you on track while on your summer adventures.
1. Always brush 2x a day, no matter what.
Even if you are tired or busy, it is important to stay on top of it. Brushing should be done every morning and every night before bed. It only takes 1 missed day for the teeth to start forming a plaque layer…AND…stinky breath! Pee yew!
2. Floss, floss, floss!
Flossing is just as important as brushing, and when you are on vacation, it is no different! Did you know the only way to clean in between your teeth is with dental floss?
3. Remember to pack your fluoride toothpaste!
There are so many options for toothpaste on the market right now. My advice: make sure it contains FLUORIDE! Fluoride helps provide a barrier for your teeth against harsh acid levels in your mouth. It is critical to have a fluoride toothpaste on hand when traveling, especially when the vacation diet may not be the greatest. 😉
4. Drink it up, H20 style!
As tempting as those fun, sugary, vacation foods are, remember they can cause decay. One way to help balance the PH level in the mouth when indulging in some summer treats is to drink water between snacks and meals. Water helps neutralize the mouth while also helping rinse out food debris while on the road.
5. Keep your toothbrush covered and clean
Traveling can get messy sometimes, but make sure your toothbrush doesn’t. Traveling cases for your toothbrush head are a great option, but a simple plastic baggy over the top will also work. When you get to your destination, just remember to air out your toothbrush to keep it dry and bacteria-free!
Thanks for hanging with me today, and remember to have loads of fun on your traveling adventures! And remember to come and see your favorite dental hygienist’s when you return from your travels :).
Stay flossy,
-Oswald
