Sweet Dreams with Dr. Wully and Dr. Zach: Oswald Learns About Sedation!

Oswald Sedation Dentistry

Hi Critters!

Today we are going to talk about sweet, sweet sleep zzzzzz. My buddy Bo the Brown Bear has been taking a looooong nap this winter. Ever since it got cold he has been snoozing away in his den. Did you know that bears can sleep (or hibernate) for several months!!

Well I am here to tell you a little bit about how sleep can be a really helpful tool for pediatric dentistry.

So, just like how “hibernation” is a fancy term for sleep, in dentistry the fancy term for sleep is “sedation”.

Sometimes going to the dentist can cause even me to feel a little bit anxious or nervous. So it is so great to know that in the right situation all dental needs can be completed in a way that helps that! Let me tell you a little about it!

At Children’s Dental Care in Keene, NH we utilize 2 types of sedation

  • Nitrous Oxide (or as we like to call it “Happy Air”) does not make you go to sleep, it just helps you feel relaxed and calm when your dental appointment may require a little more time for things to get completed. It is mild and safe and by the end of the appointment it is already all gone and you are back to normal!
  • Deep Sedation is a wonderful, safe, and effective option for kids. This option is very useful because we can complete it right here in our office at 113 Railroad Street! The service is provided by well trained anesthesia providers which is their sole job. They explain everything and walk you through the process from start to finish
  • General Anesthesia is completed at the hospital (Cheshire Medical Center) and is another option to complete all dental treatment needs totally asleep.
For very young children and many folks with special needs having the tool of “sedation” in our back pocket is wonderful. Especially because it is proven to be safe and effective. So just like bears, sometimes it is better to CHOOSE TO SNOOZE!

Of course thinking about this option may raise more questions and at Children’s Dental Care we welcome the dialogue. Contact us at 603-357-6385 or shoot us an email at [email protected] to learn more!

Stay “Sleepy” my friends!

Your resident beaver,
Oswald
